About Jane Mahoney

While my background has been mainly in business and sales, I have been preparing to be an artist all my life. Storing up scenes of the play of light and dark on objects, compositions, faces, and dreams. Through visiting art museums, galleries, studying dance, designing and making clothes for my children, remodeling, decorating, and building with and for my real estate clients, I was always developing an eye for beauty.

The night I sold my real estate business of forty years, I created a list (the proverbial “Bucket List”) and the first thing that came to me was, “I want to learn to paint.” I marched down to the Art Students League of Denver, and have never looked back. Now I spend 4-5 days a week in my studio, where I have painted, shown, and sold my work for the past 10 years.

Most of my training in painting and drawing has been in the studio, with or without a live model. My work has now progressed to a focus on the contemporary and abstract, referencing nature and movement of the human body.
